Day 17: 15 Juillet, Commencer 'Le Taper'

Good morning, Col du Télégraphe!

Bit tired this morning, binned plans to ride the Col du Collard (and from there, the Col de la Croix de Fer) because it's getting too close to the Giro delle Dolomiti for me to shed the fatigue from any more big rides. From here it becomes short and sharp - with more time for sight seeing, swimming in the pool and watching Le Tour!

Turned my coffee shop ride into a little effort partway up the Col du Collard - enough to get a taste for its forested lower slopes and many hairpins.

Summer in Les Alpes = Le Tour. On the radio, in the papers, on the streets, houses and villages. It's like feeling the temperature and air pressure drop before a tropical storm. It's coming, and when it hits there'll be no escaping it.

Many of these

Some of this

And a bit of this

View over the Maurienne Valley - looks gorgeous!

But in reality the valley floor is heavily industrialized and not scenic at all. There is an Aluminium production museum in St Michel de Maurienne (haven't visited it) but it shows the emphasis on heavy industry in the local area.

Here's something to distract from the train lines, smelters and roads.

Eau potable - very important.
