Hoped to leave for my ride early to beat the heat but made do with a 9am departure. Rest assured, I was to feel the full heat of the scorching disc as it made its way across the heavens today.
Ride route: Lecco to Bellagio...
Then from Bellagio up the Madonna di Ghisallo (a famous climb with a shrine to cycling and a cycling museum). Tried to do some sustained efforts up the climbs but I need a bit more time to find my climbing legs after living in Cambridge for 9 months. The heat certainly didn't help things either, but it was truly amazing to climb such a famous road with eye popping scenery at every turn.
Here is today's bike porn from the museum: enjoy - I did.
Pantanti's bike!
Eddie Mercks' world champs winning steed - don't get too close, he'll eat you!
Details from my favourite Colnago on display.
A VERY old Bianchi in great nick - pre-derailleur gears.
After a much needed Coke I saddled up and headed over the Colma da Asso. I tried another effort up this one - the sun made it an uncomfortable climb, but it didn't top 11% or so. It took about 40 minutes, by the top I was seriously regretting not having my ventolin with me - a lesson for future days.
I'm smiling in the photo but don't be fooled! The reward, however, was a wicked hairpinned descent down to the other side of the ithsmus and back around the lake.
Here is a Kiwi flying downhill.
Looking towards Como (out of sight).
Totally, utterly cooked on the way home so I stopped for a gelato (well, part of one) and a dip in the lake. Much needed - still suffering from the asthma and the rest so not feeling all that flash.
Back home - water, Iced Tea, water, pasta senza glutine with lots of tonno and a tomato sauce. Yum.
